On Friday, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh convicted a tehsildar under the Contempt of Courts Act and sentenced him to 6 months’ imprisonment & imposed a 200 fine.
The HC after hearing 2 contempt pleas observed that B Maheswara Reddy, tehsildar of C K Dinne mandal in Kadapa district, deliberately ignored the Court orders, which is willful disobedience & liable for punishment.
One Kavali Sekhar approached the HC after Maheswara Reddy didn't comply with the proceedings given by the district collector pertaining to the removal of his land from the list of dotted lands & to issue private patta. As the district level committee approved the request of Sekhar, the HC on June 16, 2021 passed an order to implement the orders of the chairman of district-level committee.
However, instead of implementing the order, Maheswara Reddy initiated an inquiry & issued notices. Sekhar again moved the high court challenging the notices. The high court after considering his petition, passed interim orders & suspended the notices.
Even after the interim orders of the HC, Maheswara Reddy proceeded with the inquiry & passed final orders. Sekhar moved the contempt plea before the HC. After hearing the pleas, Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy observed that the action of Maheswara Reddy was a clear case of willful disobedience of court orders & he was liable for punishment.
Convicting the tehsildar in the contempt case, the HC sentenced him to 6 months’ imprisonment.
