July 16,2017:

US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) acts as a resource centre for information about missing and exploited children.

Centre has submitted before Supreme Court that it is taking help of the US-based private body, which gives the technical details on uploading of the child porn to 99 countries, to curb menace in India.

In the Status Report to be filed in Apex Court, Centre has expounded that US-based National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) acts as Resource Centre for the information about the missing and the exploited children and they provide "free" details through secure channel to central law enforcing agency of US and 99 other nations.

Government has submitted before the Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra that as per information conveyed by NCMEC, they are trying to establish "secure link" with law enforcing agency in country.

Report further added that Ministry of Electronics and the Information Technology (MEIT) has sent a letter to Ministry of Home Affairs, a copy of which has also been sent to Ministry of Women and Child Development, requesting them to follow up for establishing communication with NCMEC.

Recently, in a communication to the home ministry, the MEIT has said that the NCMEC has informed that "a large number of reports are available with them wherein illegal imagery related to child pornography/child abuse have been uploaded from Indian territory".

Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand had on July 14,2017 sybmitted before Apex Court Bench that Centre has blocked 3,522 websites carrying the Child Pornographic content last month and has asked Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to consider the installation of the jammers in the schools to block access to such sites.

Apex Court had asked Government to file the Status Report within the two days on steps taken by it to stop the child pornography.

Supreme Court is dealing with Petition which has sought a direction to Centre to take the appropriate steps to curb the child pornography across the country.
