His term, along with the other law officers, has been extended until the further orders.
Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) on Saturday approved extension of term of law officers including the Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar and the Additional Solicitor Generals until the further orders.
AG Rohatgi was appointed as the 14th Attorney General of India in June 2014.
Son of the former Delhi High Court judge Justice Awadh Behari Rohatgi, Rohatgi has represented Gujarat government in Supreme Court in 2002 Gujarat riots and the fake encounter death cases, including Best Bakery and the Zahira Sheikh cases.
The ACC has extended tenure of the Additional Solicitor Generals (ASG) including Maninder Singh, Paramjit Singh Patwalia, Tushar Mehta, PS Narsimha and Pinky Anand.
All abovestated ASGs were appointed for period of three years, on June 6,2014 and their tenure were ending on the June 6, 2017.
