Usage of the term 'Republic' is restricted under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950, asserts Swamy.

Arnab Goswami, who was Editor-in-chief with Times Now and had quit in October last year is now back in news.

He is starting a new Media venture called Republic and it's launching on 26 January, 2017.
Journalist Goswami has been travelling around India asking citizens to 'Join Republic, Join the Revolution'.

Rajya Sabha MP and Bengaluru-based media-baron, Rajeev Chandrashekhar is one of the major investors in this venture.

Even as one NDA MP backs the venture, another MP of BJP is now raising questions about the name adopted.

Arnab Goswami's first Legal challenge has come from Subramanian Swamy,  national executive member and Rajya Sabha MP of BJP. .

Swamy has written a letter to the Secretary, Ministry of I&B, questioning as to how a TV channel can be allowed to use the name Republic in violation of Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950.Read Laws @ LatestLaws.in-
