Movie Director, Bhavna Talwar, made an announcement regarding the film ‘Pyaasa’ way before in July 2020 through a post on her social media handles. This film “Pyaasa” is reportedly based on the life of a renowned filmmaker and everyone’s favourite Guru Dutt. The biopic “Pyaasa” has been titled after Dutt's cinematic masterpiece from 1957. She has been working really hard on the script for about seven long years to make the film. She wants to show the audience about the entire life journey of the legendary Guru Dutt including the filmmaker's early works and all his eventual transformations into an artiste.

Now recently a complaint has been filed over copyright violation against the director. Nina Memon has sent this legal copyright violation notice to Bhavna. Nina is the only surviving child of Guru Dutt and his beloved wife Geeta Bali. Guru Dutt’s daughter Nina alleged Bhavna in her notice that she did not take permission from anyone before making her father’s biopic public. She clearly said that she is the sole owner of copyrights for Dutt's life story. However, her spokesperson Mr Kaleem Khan has recently claimed, "Ms Memon has not assigned any rights to a third party, production house or studio. There is a violation of the rights of Dutt’s family.”

Everyone is aware of the reputation that the great actor Mr Guru Dutt had during his lifetime in Hindi cinema filmmakers. Even after his sad demise, that reputation doesn’t have a small tint in any manner. Guru Dutt is remembered by everyone for his talents in the field of directing, producing, and acting in various commercially successful as well as acclaimed, independent film productions. He is often described by everyone as one of the greatest storytellers the world has seen till now. His movies such as “Pyaasa” and “Kaagaz Ke Phool” had have been featured in various lists of best movies across the globe. Dutt died under weird mysterious circumstances in the year 1964. He was just 39 years of age when he died. After his demise, many filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra continuously tried multiple times to make his biopic but could not succeed in their attempts. But, now Bhavna Talwar has finally announced to make his biopic.

At the same time, Bhavna said in an interview, “I have not received any legal notice. Even if I get a notice, it will not make any sense.” Bhavna further added, “My film ‘Pyaasa’ will not present any wrong story about any person or incident nor will there be any unhappiness in my family because of my intention. The script of ‘Pyaasa’ covers only those things about Guru Dutt that have already become public. So we have no fear of copyright infringement cases. Moreover, I have delivered the script, and this is a film that I will make. I am sure the producer, Sheetal Talwar, will do what is right and will reach out to the family at some point.”

The movie was supposed to enter the production house in 2021. Bhavna is done with her homework and ready to take action. She has already prepared the screenplay of the film. She is firm enough with her decision of making this film anyhow. She has also made it public that she will not hesitate in meeting the family of Guru Dutt in case of any need of their help for clarifications. Talking about the movie, Talwar had earlier stated, "I have followed the information in the public domain to put together this story, my research has not been about talking to people." Everyone must be excited enough to know about the life journey of Guru Dutt but now they might have to wait for a while.
