Taking into account the present day situation revolving around the life threatening, deadly and hazardous disease called Corona virus (Covid-19), the governments of various nations have proceeded with authorizations and directions containing provisions of lockdowns and curfews in multiple regions, with an aim to safeguard the lives of common citizens. Such action by the governments has eventually resulted in an enhancement of home-based working platforms, commonly known as, work-from-home, adopted by a good number of companies, industries, departments and offices, in general, to keep up with the growth and appropriate functioning of the same. Nowadays, it is not a rare scenario to spot a work-from-home system in companies. As a matter of fact, a lot of companies offer this medium to its employees as well as make a mention of the same in their working policies, for improvising worker satisfaction and to intensify productivity and feasibility of workers.
Amidst the present situation, the American multinational computer technology company, Dell Inc. filed an application for trademark registration of its brand new technology, featuring the idea of ‘Podcast Conferencing’ named as “Podference”. Filing for such, is likely to attract home-workers especially in a crisis like today. Therefore, it might be said that Dell’s attempt might be the one to make hay while the sun shines. Factually, the application for trademark registration was filed by Dell’s Senior Legal Director, Sanjiv Sarwate operating from Dell’s headquarters located in Dell Round Rock, Texas, United States.
The application includes registration of the trademark “Podference” for the following descriptions, namely, “Downloadable podcasts in the field of technology, business and digital transformation; Downloadable video recordings featuring technology, business and digital transformation; Downloadable written articles in the field of technology, business and digital transformation” and “Educational services, namely, conducting seminars in the field of technology, business and digital transformation; Providing a website featuring non-downloadable articles in the field of technology, business and digital transformation; Providing a website featuring non-downloadable videos in the field of technology, business and digital transformation”.
However, it is presumed by the experts in the field that Dell might face repercussions of this registration, since an identical named domain available as www.podference.com was registered last year.
