A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday conducted a spot enquiry into the death of a 5-year-old girl who had allegedly died due to starvation in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
As per details, the investigation pertains to a case from August 2020, wherein a 5-yearold girl had died and the family had alleged that it didn't have money to feed the young girl, ultimately resulting in her death. According to officials, while the Commission had taken suo moto cognizance in the matter, it had even sought a report from the Uttar Pradesh government.
Sources say that the Commission had found the report and answers by the UP government and Director of Child Development and Nutrition in the matter, evasive and ordered a spot inquiry into the matter. According to reports, the mother of the girl had claimed that while she was a daily wage labourer, she was left with no work during the pandemic which resulted in the family being left with no money and resources to eat for almost 15 days, which resulted in the death of the young child.
