You can now track down the status of MCC Violation Cases on EC Website; new feature launched

The Election Commission of India has launched a new feature on its website where citizens will be able to view the status of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations that the EC is looking into.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi on 4 April, an official of the EC said that all information related to MCC violation cases the body was pursuing would be available and accessible to the people of the country.

He added that the protocol followed would be that whatever updates had taken place in the case till 12 pm would be available on the website at 6 pm the same day.

For the first phase, the feature on the ECI website will show whatever MCC violations the EC has taken cognizance of since 10 March.

The official added that starting now, all updates would be available on the website continuously, with the link being active on the ticker.

The Election Commission also stated at the press conference that the information would not be restricted to view-only, but could also be downloaded. Users will now be able to see constant updates, download the complaint and any notice regarding it, as well as the final decision.

This feature that will go live on Friday, with the website also being updated with the action being taken at the state level.

“This will definitely be of great help to everyone to know what is happening, to establish a level playing field and also act as deterrent, that action is immediately being taken,” the official announced.

However, the official added that the new addition was a work in progress and the ECI would do their best to ensure that it was as live as possible. He also asked the people and the media to note that the EC will only take action after finding sufficient material, adding that it takes around 12 hours to get the status of a case, before going in for initiation of action.

The next step, the EC said, would possibly be addition of information about the important MCC references that were coming in for relaxation.
