The Pilot Project has been started in Four Districts of the State.

Wedding ceremonies in Kerala are all set to become 'Green'! The state govt. is coming out with a green-protocol to make such auspicious occasions more nature-friendly.

With the implementation of this Green-protocol, plastic & other non-degradable articles including disposable plates & glasses plus thermocol decorations'll be kept at bay from the wedding functions.

Instead of this, people'd be persuaded to use plates, tumblers etc. made of glass & environment-friendly metals, officials sources said.

Inspections'll be held at the marriage halls, hotels & convention centres & various other venues of the wedding ceremony & action would be taken if this protocol is violated, the sources said.

The state nodal agency for sanitation - 'Suchitwa Mission', has already launched this initiative in Kannur, Kollam, Ernakulam & Alappuzha.

C. V. Joy, Director (Operations), Suchitwa Mission, said that the green-protocol was launched as part of the govt's Anti-plastic drive & Green-Kerala Mission.

The core objective of this initiative is to reduce the use of plastic in daily life.

Special squads comprising officials of the 'Suchitwa Mission' & Revenue dept., have been formed to carry out inspections in the wedding halls & videograph the wedding ceremony.

Action'd be taken on the bases of nature of utensils & articles used there.

"District administration is issuing Green marriage certificate for those weddings which completely abide by the protocol" the Director said.
