June 20, 2019:

Instant messaging app WhatsApp is working on rolling out a new feature that is visible to users when sending an image to other contacts.

This new feature has already made been live in the latest beta update (v2.19.173).

Now while sending an image to a contact WhatsApp will show the name of the recipient. This is applicable in both individual and group chats — giving the users a final look to the person(s) who may see the image they are sending.

While this is certainly a welcome addition, WhatsApp already shows the profile picture or group icon in case of individual or group conversations respectively on the top left corner for the sender to be sure.

This new feature will come in handy especially in case the contact has not assigned a profile picture or has a display picture that is same as a common group icon.

The feature is likely to be rolled out to a stable build soon as it is already there in the beta build.

Two features — that were earlier this year launched in beta updates — were recently rolled out in the stable version v2.19.150 of the app for Android users.

These features - consecutive voice messages and forwarding information are now available for all Android users of WhatsApp. Using the consecutive voice messages, Android users will not have to play each voice note they receive individually as they will be played continuously. However, it is applicable only in the case of consecutive voice messages.

Secondly, as for the forwarding information feature, this will let the users know the number of times a message has been forwarded. Users can check by selecting the message and tapping on the three-dot icon on the right and selecting 'Info'.

Readers must note that this information will be available only for sent messages because the user can navigate into Message Info only for messages he/she sent.

Due to this, if you want to see how many times a message has been forwarded, you will have to forward the same and go back to Message Info.
