June 26,2017:
Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu stated that,"It is important to learn 'Rashtra Bhasha' (National Language) Hindi as most people in the country speak this language".
Naidu further added that promotion of 'Matrubhasha' (Mother Tongue) and lamented that too much importance was attached to English in this country.
Minister was speaking at an event in the Sabarmati Ashram here where he presented 100 volumes of collected works of Mahatma Gandhi in English to Ashram.
Naidu stated that,"Hindi as Rashtra Bhasha (National Language) is very important, we cannot do without it...Most of the people in our country speak Hindi, so learning Hindi is also important... but we should be fluent in our mother language like Gujarati, Marathi, Bhojpuri".
The Information and Broadcasting Minister added that while he was not against English as a language, it was "being given undue importance because of its association with the increasing the job prospects."
