He was trying to defend his Client who was accused of setting his Car on Fire in an arson incident.

Miami Defense Attorney is feeling the heat after his pants caught fire while he delivered closing arguments in an arson case.

Witnesses told that 28 year old Stephen Gutierrez was fiddling in his pocket on Wednesday while addressing the bench when smoke started coming from his pants. At that time, he was arguing that his client's car spontaneously combusted and was not intentionally set on fire.

Stephen Gutierrez quickly left the courtroom & the Jurors were also escorted out.

When S. Gutierrez returned unharmed, he insisted it was not any sort of staged defense gone wrong. He blamed a faulty e-cigarette battery.

Miami-Dade police & the prosecutors are investigating this incident. Investigators have seized frayed e-cigarette batteries as an evidence.

Judge Michael Hanzman may decide to hold S. Gutierrez in contempt of court.

Gutierrez's client was eventually convicted of the second-degree arson.
