July 14, 2019:

As many as 25 “non-performing and corrupt” police officers were forced into retirement with immediate effect by deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Rajesh Kumar Pandey in the Bareilly police range on Sunday.

The action was taken following a direction issued by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath to force corrupt and non-performing police officers above 50 years of age into retirement. A list of such officers was sought from every district by June 30.

After screening records of police officers, SSPs of Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Budaun districts sent their lists to the DIG office and after a final shortlisting, the non-performers and corrupt officers were handed over notices on Sunday.

The notices were served to one inspector, five sub-inspectors, 11 constables, seven head constables and one clerical staffer. There are seven officers each from Bareilly and Shahjahanpur districts.

According to police sources, inspector Sunil Bishnoi was forced into retirement after he was found absent from his duty for several months, and also there were several complaints about his behaviour. Bishnoi was transferred to Bareilly district from Shahjahanpur, but he never took his duty seriously. Apart from Bishnoi, four sub-inspectors and two constables were served notices in Bareiily district on Sunday.

The policemen forced into retirement will receive three months’ salary in advance, and other benefits on par with the officers taking voluntary retirement.

DIG Pandey told TOI, “After receiving instructions from the DGP office, we screened non-performing, problematic, corrupt policemen above 50 years of age. Thereafter, a committee was formed in every district to provide a list of such policemen to the range office. The list was finally screened by a range-level committee and 25 policemen will be handed over letters by their respective SSPs.”
