Days after Supreme Court judge Justice NV Ramana, who is expected to be the next Chief Justice of India, donated Rs 1 lakh to the PM’s relief fund & similar amounts to the Andhra & Telangana govts to deal with the coronavirus threat, another sitting judge S Ravindra Bhatt has stepped on to the streets of Delhi to extend relief to migrants fleeing from the city.
Justice Bhatt was seen personally handing over food packets on Sunday to some of the fleeing migrants on one of Delhi’s roads.
Senior Lawyer Rakesh Dwivedi also took the lead & donated Rs 1 crore to the PM-CARES Fund as the legal fraternity, putting aside its own problems, ramped up support for the weaker sections affected by the lockdown.
The Delhi HC announced that each judge will contribute Rs 10,000 from their salaries to support the govt’s efforts. The Supreme Court & Delhi High Court subordinate staff will contribute a day’s salary to the govt, which will be voluntary.
Justice Ramana also requested the public to abide by the instructions of the govt & take proper measures a& follow social distancing.
Justice Bhatt also stepped out & helped migrants who are fleeing the capital city after the lockdown in the absence of any security net. The central & state govts have been trying to ensure that they are quarantined before they enter their villages.
