The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCOARA) strongly condemned the actions of an advocate who, through an unwarranted and intemperate gesture, sought to show disrespect toward the office of the Chief Justice of India and accompanying Judges. The Association emphasized that such conduct is wholly unbecoming of a member of the Bar and strikes at the foundation of mutual respect that underpins the relationship between the Bench and the Bar.

SCOARA observed that the act is antithetical to the dignity of the legal profession and contrary to constitutional values of decorum, discipline, and institutional integrity. The Association further warned that any personalized act aimed at maligning a sitting judge of the Supreme Court constitutes a direct affront to judicial independence and risks undermining public confidence in the justice delivery system.

Expressing complete solidarity with the Chief Justice of India and the judiciary, SCOARA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the majesty, independence, and impartiality of the Supreme Court. The Association also called upon members of the legal fraternity to maintain professional decorum, refrain from divisive conduct, and collectively preserve the dignity and unity of the institution.

In addition, SCOARA suggested that the Apex Court may take suo motu cognizance of the incident and initiate appropriate proceedings for contempt of court, noting that such a gesture scandalizes the authority of the Court and diminishes public trust. The Association underscored that while freedom of speech is sacrosanct, it carries a duty of restraint, especially for legal professionals who are officers of the Court.
