The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has informed in Rajya Sabha that no deaths have been reported due to manual scavenging in the last five years.
The Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Mr. Ramdas Athawale informed that “No such deaths have been reported due to Manual Scavenging”
The question was tabled by Mallikarjun Kharge and Dr L Hanumanthaiah. it was also informed that till date, the National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC) has been funded with Rs 192.6 crore, and Rs 211.84 crore has been utilized . The Ministry has also revealed that till date, around 66,692 manual scavengers have been identified across the country.
