Six of 30 names suggested were rejected by SC Collegium for Madras High Court.

Supreme Court Collegium has now cleared 24 names of Justices to join at Madras High Court. This includes 15 Justices from the Bar and 9 from the Bench on Promotion.

The names clearedby the Supreme Court Collegium are: . Parthiban,  M. Govindaraj, M. Sundar, R. Sureshkumar, Bhavani Subbaroyan, A.D. Jagdish Chandra, Sathia Chandran, G.R. Swaminathan, Abdul Quddhose, R. Subrama-niam, M. Dhandapani, P.D. Audikesavalu,  Anita Sumanth VNishaBanu, M.S. Ramesh, and S.M. Subramanaiam.

The nine district judges whose names have been cleared for elevation are: S. Baskaran, P. Velmur-ugan, G. Jayachandran, R.M.T. Teeka Raman, N. Sathishkumar, N. Sesha-sayee, T. Ravindran,  C.V. Karthikeyan and Basheer Ahmed.

The SC Collegium reportedly cleared the names in its meeting held on Friday, last week.

Total names sent by the Madras High Court had sent 30 names. Out of them six has been now rejected by the SC collegium.

As of now there are 38 judges in Madras High Court. A total of 37 vacancies are available for appointment.

In yet another related development, Central Government has have acceded to the suggestions by the Supreme Court Collegium to transfer four High Court Judges.

According to report received from sources, Justice F A Ansari will join as Patna High Court Chief Justice.

Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana Justice D B Bhosle will join as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.

Justice Indira Banerjee of Calcutta High Court has been transferred to Delhi High Court.

Justice M M Shantanagoudar of Karnataka High Court has been moved to the High Court of Kerala.

Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court S J Wajifdar has been directed to act as Chief Justice of the same court.
