Lawyers in Mathura initiated an indefinite strike to protest alleged police misconduct and systemic neglect of advocates’ grievances. The Bar Association announced that despite several representations to senior police officials regarding repeated incidents of high-handedness, no remedial action had been taken, compelling the legal fraternity to resort to collective protest.

The Mathura Bar Association, in a meeting of its senior members, resolved to suspend all legal work across civil, criminal, motor accident claims, and other district courts, including those under the Chhata Bar Association. The district judge, district magistrate, senior superintendent of police (SSP), and other authorities were duly informed of the decision.

The Association emphasized that the strike was not prompted by any isolated episode but by ongoing complaints of mistreatment of advocates at police stations and a persistent lack of cooperation from police officials. Members stated that multiple discussions had already been held with the SSP regarding the deteriorating law-and-order situation, yet no corrective steps were initiated.

The Association clarified that while it is conscious of the hardship such strikes cause to litigants and the justice delivery system, the decision became inevitable in the absence of administrative intervention. The lawyers have given the authorities a two-day period to address their concerns, failing which they warned of intensifying the agitation through demonstrations and other forms of protest.
