CM Chandy had filed a Plea before the Judge that Opposition is making defamatory statements against him.

Kerala Vacation District Judge K P Indira, warned that court must not be made a platform for playing politics. CM had made a plea to restrain V S Achuthanandan from making “defamatory statements."

Kerala CM Oommen Chandy's Petition to restrain opposition leader V S Achuthanandan's tirade against the state government through the courts ended in a debacle on Friday .

Chandy had filed a suit claiming Rs 1 lakh as damages. He cited the speech made by VS during an election convention in Kannur where he had alleged that the CM was facing 31 cases. While seeking votes for senior leader Pinarayi Vijayan, VS alleged the ministers in Chandy government Leaders all together faced 136 cases.

Both Chandy and VS were not present in the court when the case was taken up. District government Advocate Santhosh Kumar argued in the court that VS's remarks affected the reputation of his client (the CM) as well as other Ministers and hence a compensation of Rs 1 lakh may be levied from him.

But, upon hearing the matter the court dismissed this plea straight away stating that such an interim order might affect the republican form of the political system in the state. The judge then observed  that court must not be made a playground for politics.

“The judicial system cannot be allowed to be made use of by politicians as a platform for raising allegations against their opponent politicians, more so when the election is scheduled for May 16,“ held judge Indira.
