The Kerala High Court Division-Judge bench comprised of Justices C. T. Ravikumar and Murali Purushottam observed in a suo Motu proceeding that virtual queue of 5000 devotees was booked within few moments of its opening because of which many devotees were still left out from it. The Court raised the upper limit of devotees from 5000 to 10000.

The Court held that

The report is to the effect that owing to the adoption of virtual queue system for Sabarimala pilgrimage, there occurs under utilization of permitted number of 5000 pilgrims in the sense that even after the booking the entire slots, only half the allottees are turning up for Darshan. The fact is that the 5000 virtual queue slots are being booked within hours of the opening of the site. The virtual queue slots are done through the web site www.Sabarimalaonline.org which is an initiative of Kerala Police. Taking note of the nature of the issues, the Additional third respondent viz., the State Police Chief or any officer specifically authorised by him shall file an affidavit as to whether the aforementioned situation occurs due to any deceitful action from the part of anyone and whether it is possible for any agency to make an enmasse registration with a view to have wrongful gain. The matter of concern is that owing to some such unfortunate reasons, the genuine devotees are being deprived of opportunities to have Darshan. After bestowing proper attention to the issues and problem, an affidavit on the aforesaid aspects shall be filed on or before 12.3.2021”
