Minister of State in Ministry of Home Affairs informed Lok Sabha that Delhi Police is governed by The Delhi Police Act, 1978 and it functions under the superintendence of the Administrator, i.e Lt. Governor, Delhi.

He replied to an Unstarred Question that whether Delhi Police and its employees/officers come under the Central government in spite of having a Government in Delhi or not.

 He stated that as per the special provisions with respect to Delhi contained in Article 239 AA(3)(a) of the Constitution of India, public order, police and land and matters connected therewith, fall under the domain of the Central Government.

He further stated that the direct recruitment for all the posts in Delhi Police is conducted on pan India basis through Staff Selection Commission.
