The President of India has appointed Justice M. Duraiswamy as acting Chief Justice of madras High Court. Justice M. Duraiswamy is the senior most Judge of the High Court after the transfer of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee to Meghalaya High Court.

Justice M. Duraiswamy will hold the office until the joining of Shri Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari in the Madras High Court on transfer from Allahabad High Court, who will become the senior most Judge in the Madras High Court and will thereafter perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

The notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice has notified that,

In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Justice M. Duraiswamy, senior-most Judge of the Madras High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, with effect from 17.11.2021 consequent upon transfer of Shri Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court as Chief Justice, Meghalaya High Court until the joining of Shri Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari in the Madras High Court on transfer from Allahabad High Court, who will become the senior most Judge in the Madras High Court and will thereafter perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

About Justice M. Duraiswamy

Justice M. Duraiswamy  was born on 22.09.1960. After completion of B.Com degree, did B.L., degree in Madras Law College and enrolled as an Advocate in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 21.01.1987. He worked as Junior under The Hon’ble Thiru.Justice A.S.Venkatachalamoorthy, former Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court. He practiced as an Advocate in the Madras High Court. He was appointed as Central Government Standing Counsel for the period 1997-2000. He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of Madras on 31.03.2009 and appointed as the Judge of the High Court of Madras on 29.03.2011.
