The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry has sent a letter to Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee of Madras High Court to instruct the Government to set up quarantine facilities in Court premises for Advocates, Judicial Officers, and Clerk.

“It is our humble request that if Covid centres consisting of enormous beds and quarantine beds supported with oxygen are established within the court campuses throughout the state of Tamilnadu and Puducherry and it will be a timely help and support for those affected by the virus.”

This plea was made by the Council to reduce stress on Hospitals, and to provide better and effective medical attendance to Judicial Officers, Advocates, staff, and their family members who are tested positive with the COVID 19 virus. It was highlighted that if quarantine facilities were provided in Court premises, the same will also help the Government to tackle the unavailability of beds in other medical facilities.

"There is no immediate facility to provide treatment to the Covid-19 patients and even several persons are dying in the ambulance itself. The Judiciary is also coming under the essential service and the Advocates and Staffs are part of it."

Further, in the letter, the Council requested the appointment of Nodal officers at Taluk and District levels for COVID-19 Helpline. It was also requested that necessary directions may be issued to the Government to take immediate steps to establish Covid-19 Helpline for the Judicial Officers, Advocates, and Staff.
