1. The present petition has been filed, inter alia, for protection of

life and liberty of the petitioners from the hands of private respondents.

2. It is alleged that respondent No.4 to 6 are trying to forcibly evict the petitioners as their tenants.

3. Learned State counsel has submitted that in fact, the matter is civil in nature and the petitioners have already approached the Civil Court for the necessary relief.

4. Per contra, learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that the Civil Court has granted status quoon 28.08.2023 against respondent Nos.4 to 6 but the same was after filing of the present petition.

5. Heard the learned counsel for the parties.

6. Without commenting upon the merits of the case, the present

petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.3-SHO, Police Station Nangal, Tehsil Nangal, District Rupnagar, Punjab, to ensure maintenance of peace and harmony and it is made clear that either of the parties shall not be supported or opposed in the civil litigation by the official respondents and the process of criminal jurisprudence shall not be used to pressurize each other.

7. Needless to state that the State is duty bound to protect the life and liberty of its citizens and no specific order/direction is required to be

passed qua the same.
