This appeal has been filed by the accused-appellant Kanhai Lal son of Mohan Lal who has been convicted in Session Trial No. 196 of 2015 and sentenced to life imprisonment vide judgment and order dated 06.08.2018.

When the matter was taken up earlier, the Court was informed that the accused-appellant Kanhai Lal has died. A direction was issued to call for a report in that regard from the concerned Chief Judicial Magistrate.

The office has submitted a report from Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pilibhit dated 08.02.2022, as per which the accused-appellant Kanhai Lal has died on 14.06.2022. His death certificate as also statement of witnesses in that regard have been annexed.

In view of the above, since the sole appellant Kanhai Lal has died, the present Criminal Appeal No. 4978 of 2018 abates and is dismissed.
