Former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, on Tuesday said that guardians should spend more time with their wards.
“I know the guardians today try really hard for their children. But I should say one thing to parents. Please spend time with your children. I know most of the parents are working & are busy, but still, they should try to spend more time with their kids,” he said, while addressing the students of Sushila Birla Girls School at the silver jubilee of the institution.
Mukherjee also said that empowerment of girl child is a must if a nation wants to prosper. Terming himself as only a citizen of India, the former President, who was also the Union finance minister, said that education was necessary for empowerment of girls & transformation of society.
Mukherjee quoted from speeches of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru while stressing about the importance of building a nation through hard work. “When I see all these promising faces, I feel that the largest democracy of the world is in safe hands,” he added.
He also recalled the role played by students in India’s freedom struggle & that played by women to make India a great nation.
S K Birla, chairman emeritus of Birla Group, delivered the welcome address. In his address, Birla termed Mukherjee as one of the finest ministers he had seen in his lifetime. “I know him since the days when he was a junior minister. Since then we always shared a cordial relationship,” he added.
