Anti-social elements use them as safe hideouts.

People living in RK Puram’s govt. flats & nearby colonies, shouldn’t be astonished to see a policeman at their door in the coming days. The cop are on round to update & verify your details.

For security reasons, Delhi police is set to begin a drive to check all govt. accommodations in south Delhi to ensure the flats have not been rented out. Renting out a govt. accommodation is not allowed. Many such cases of illegal tenants have come to their knowledge recently.

After RK Puram, the drive may be extended to other govt. colonies including Moti Bagh, Lodhi Colony, Andrews Ganj and Sarojini Nagar. This drive will prove helpful in keeping a check on anti-social elements who may seek hideouts in these areas which are mostly least suspected.

This step comes after the arrest last month of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Intelligence Bureau on charges of smuggling imported liquor at his RK Puram house. The police seized liquor worth Rs 50 lakhs and Rs 15.5 lakh cash. Liquor was being smuggled in a Mercedes car.

“After the recent arrest, we noticed that some allotted owners are letting out their homes to people. We found small-time businessmen & taxi drivers living at some places while at some houses people have started study centres,” said the official.

Investigators were surprised to know that the allotted owners didn’t even care to visit their houses for months together.
