Ex-Army personnel was allegedly shot dead by his teenage daughter after he opened fire at her & his wife, injuring them seriously in Mathura’s Mitthauli village. Police said the shootout followed a heated argument in the family.
Chetram Singh, 41-year-old who served as a Naik in the Jat Regiment & retired 6 years ago, took out his pistol in a fit of rage & shot at his 38-year-old wife & seventeen-year-old daughter (name withheld). As he turned the weapon to shoot his thirteen-year-old son, the injured girl pounced on him & managed to snatch the weapon from his hands. She then opened fire, killing the man on the spot, said Police
Both, Chetram’s wife & his daughter are battling for their lives at a private hospital. Police said they were waiting for them to record their statements.
Circle officer Alok Dubey said while 1 bullet scrapped the woman’s right eyebrow, the girl sustained gunshot wounds in the abdomen. The former soldier was shot at in his chest & abdomen, said Police.
Chetram’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
According to the Police the girl, who is taking coaching classes in Allahabad, had come home 2 days back. Her younger brother is studying in Class IX in Mathura.
Mathura deputy inspector general Shalabh Mathur said the police recovered 1 pistol, 2 magazines, 3 live cartridges along with 2 empty ones from the spot. He said Chetram was said to be angry over his daughter’s alleged affair with a local youth.
Mathur said, “We are inquiring the matter in detail".
Meanwhile, a case was filed under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) & 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC at Naujheel police station on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother.
