The city Police can now look ahead to receiving a card on their birthdays, which will be electronically signed by the Police Commissioner.

On Saturday, Commissioner Bhaskar Rao, who issued a circular on the matter said, the aim of this initiative is to motivate & bring cheer to the Police who have to work in stressful conditions

The Commissioner’s social media unit will send out birthday cards to at least 50 Policemen on Sunday in an inaugural ceremony.

Jurisdictional Senior Police officers have been told to issue birthday cards to all personnel working under the city Police commissionerate including home guards & housekeeping staff. Mr. Rao also directed Police officers to provide a day off to those celebrating their birthdays so that they could spend time with family & friends. The cards will be sent through their internal ‘tappal’ system with the Police Commissioner’s digital signature.

Commissioner Rao, “A police officer’s job is possibly one of the hardest. I want them to have a day off to celebrate their birthday peacefully. I believe that a happy police staff will also be better in fulfilling duties".

So far, birthday celebrations have been organised unofficially at stations. “This is a great initiative which will motivate Police personnel,” a senior Police officer said.
