Death of a five-year-old student, Ankit, upon fall into a septic tank, prompted this move.

Municipal Corporation Schools in Delhi will soon become 24X7  CCTV vigil enabled. There are as many as 1,860 schools in the 3 Municipal Corporations where around 10 lakh students are getting education from 18,000 odd Teachers.

In order to ensure complete safety of students and also to improve quality of Education being imparted by keeping a close vigil on teachers, a decision has been taken by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to install CCTV cameras in each classroom in its 380 schools.

Soon this would be followed in South and North Delhi Municipal Corporation as well.

Jitender Choudhary, who is currently Chairman of Standing Committee of EDMC said that municipal corporations are looked upon as bad education providers and there are student's safety issues as well. CCTVs would change this image and ensure quality education and safety to students.

What prompted this officials decision is the death of a five-year-old student, Ankit, who had fallen into a septic tank in January 27 this year.

Upon inquiry the school administration was held responsible for the incident.

Once the CCTVs will be installed in every classroom and play area they would be monitored at the Corporation Headquarters.

CCTVs will also help the corporations to keep a check on mid-day meals being served to the students.

It is part of 10-point safety guidelines for all municipal schools which highlights the need for daily supervision and identifying and marking areas that could pose potential danger to students.
