Whatsapp has become a thriving centre for the smuggling of illegal weapons across Uttar Pradesh. Prayagraj police busted 6 interstate gangs in the trans Gang & Yamuna pocket involved in the sale of illegal weapons through whatsapp groups where pictures of models of country-made arms were shared & orders received. Ther smugglers used the popular messaging app in a bid to evade police.
Prayagraj SSP Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj told News Agency, “A team of crime branch & police of Naini, Cantt, Daraganj, Shahganj & Ghurpur unearthed this clandestine mode of smuggling & seized a cache of over 35 illegal weapons within a span of 2 months. A total of 17 arms smugglers were arrested”
“Investigations revealed the arms smugglers had circulated half a dozen designs of conutry-made pistols to clients across the state through their WhatsApp numbers & smuggled the consignment after their approval,” he added.
