Owing to lack of performance, including complicity in drug abuse cases, 17 Moga (in Punjab) Policemen have been compulsorily retired from service.

On Friday, four constables consisting of two Senior Constables, Four Head Constables and one assistant Sub-Inspector were handed over the retirement orders. They have been directed to leave the service after getting approval from their higher-ups.

Many of those compulsorily retired still had several years of service left. The District Police authorities justifying the dismissal said that the Officials were retired over various reasons related to performance.

Sources said some of the Policemen were allegedly hand in gloves with drug peddlers and were facilitating sale of intoxicants instead of containing the menace.

When contacted, Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amarjit Singh Bajwa confirmed that 17 Policemen had been compulsorily retired.

He said, “They have been retired as they performed poorly.”
