The Calcutta High Court Bench comprising Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj permitted the restricted immersion procession by a song for Jaggadhatri puja on November 14 following the COVID 19 protocol.
Background
This petition has been filed seeking a direction to permit the petitioner to organise an immersion procession of Lord Jagaddhatri on November 14, 2021, by way of carrying out by ‘song’ from Rajbari to Kadamtala Ghat
Submission of the Counsels
The submission of the learned counsel for the petitioner was that the petitioner should be allowed to carry out a procession by ‘song’ as was permitted prior to Covid 19 pandemic, but when the learned Advocate General had pointed out that such a procession cannot be permitted on account of the fact that it would be in violation of Covid 19 protocol as it may lead to long procession going through the middle of the town and the same was also not allowed previously.
The learned counsel for the petitioner prayed for limited permission that at least some symbolic procession should be allowed. Learned Advocate General had fairly stated that if the representatives of the petitioner made such a request to the concerned authority then their proposal would be duly looked into having due regard to the Covid 19 situation.
Order of the Court
After hearing the Counsels, the Court ordered that Procession by ‘song’ from Rajbari to Kadamtala Ghati are allowed to be subjected to Covid 19 guidelines.
Accordingly, the petition was dismissed.
