1st GNLU Essay Competition on Sports Law: Submit by March 8

About the Organizer

The GNLU Centre for Sports and Entertainment Law (GCSEL) is one of the country’s first centres that works in the area of sports and entertainment. Since it’s inception in 2010, the sports wing of the Centre has aimed to provide legal infrastructure to the sports industry and a forum for students to engage in and work with lawyers representing athletes, teams, leagues, conferences, civic recreational programs, educational institutions and other organizations involved in professional, collegiate, Olympic, physical education and amateur sports.

In line with the Centre’s purpose to create awareness and encourage students to explore deeper in the subject of sports law, the Centre is pleased to announce the 1st GNLU Essay Competition on Sports Law.

About the Essay Competition

Essay submissions for the 1st GNLU Essay Competition on Sports Law organized by GCSEL must be centred around the following themes:

  1. Data Protection in modern sport
  2. International Human Rights in sport
  3. Betting in sports
  4. E-Sports and its’ growing challenges
  5. Technology in sport
  6. Regulation of financial and investment-related aspects in sport
  7. Dispute resolution mechanisms in sport
  8. Case analysis on relevant disputes in sport

Note: Participants are encouraged to adhere to the aforementioned themes. However, there is no restriction on writing an essay based on a contemporary theme not prescribed above.

Eligibility

The competition is open to students who are pursuing their five-year integrated course of Law/ three-year LLB degree/LLM/PhD/MPhil or any other such course equivalent from any recognized university across the world.

Prizes

First prize: 15,000 INR

Second prize: 10,000 INR

Third prize: 5,000 INR

In addition to the prize money, the winners and two honourable mentions shall get a certificate and the opportunity to work with the Centre by way of an internship.

How to Submit?

The word limit is 3000-3500 words including footnotes. Essays that exceed the word limit shall be penalized.

The essay must be submitted through email to gcsl[@]gnlu.ac.in with the subject ‘Submission for GNLU Essay Competition on Sports Law’.

The final date of submission: 8th March 2020

Declaration of results: 7th April 2020
