The Centre for Law and Economics (CLE), is a centre for research and training in the discipline of law and economics (also referred to as the economic analysis of law). The centre seeks to explain the relevance, uses and applications of the interdisciplinary approach of law and economics among students and academicians in dealing with contemporary socio-economic-legal issues more logically and scientifically.
CLE aims to increase awareness about the interface between law and economics useful for policy formulation for the academic community, government, corporations and society. The Centre further strives to provide a forum where leading practitioners and academicians, scholars, and students, can discuss and exchange views on contemporary issues of law and economics.
The CLE-CNLU Intra Essay Writing Competition serves as a platform for participants to showcase their research and writing skills while engaging in scholarly discourse on contemporary legal issues relating to Law and Economics. The event aims to foster intellectual growth, promote research, and encourage critical thinking among the participants in the field of Law and Economics.
The study of “Law and Economics” blends the two mutually relevant subjects into one which enables lawyers, economists, academicians, and law students, to rely on economic reasoning to resolve legal disputes. Economic reasoning has always been one of the most important or central ideas behind legal arguments and judicial decisions in the fields of competition law, torts, property law, tax law, law of insolvency, corporate law, environmental law, and security law. In recent years, pioneers in law and economics have also endeavoured to establish economic analysis in hitherto unconventional areas such as constitutional law and criminal law.
In the 21st century, the scope of economic reasoning has widened and is providing beneficial insights for evaluating policies related to law and economics. Also, in many other seemingly non-economic fields like health law, and gender justice, the economic analysis can help in better understanding the issues, evaluating their performance and recommending alternative solutions for optimum social outcomes.
The Centre encourages the submission of original essays on the economic analysis of varying issues under the law. Manuscripts may relate to any allied areas of interplay of law and economics, including but not limited to the following:
The event is open to all the Under-Graduate students of Chanakya National Law University, providing them an opportunity to contribute to the discipline of law and economics by engaging in the interdisciplinary discourse and gaining visibility for their work. The program aims to introduce aspiring young scholars to the dynamic intersection of law and economics, foster curiosity among students, gain valuable insights into the intricacies of legal research and writing and actively engage them in this multifaceted field.
