About The Workshop

Law universities expect high-quality legal writing but do not teach how to do it. If you wish to learn legal research and writing from an experienced legal researcher and writer with teaching experience at the University of Oxford, NLSIU Bangalore, and Jindal Global Law School, this workshop is for you.

Over the course of five hours of live teaching and discussion you will learn how to:

  1. Explore your areas of interest and find a topic to write about
  2. Research the topic across primary and secondary sources
  3. Find your voice and develop your argument
  4. Elevate the quality of your writing by perfecting form and structure
  5. Set a publishing target and achieve it

Each participant will receive written feedback from the instructor on an 800-1,000 word draft at the end of the workshop.

This workshop is ideal for law students (at any stage of their studies), law professionals, and non-law students interested in legal writing. No preparation or writing experience is required.

About the instructor

Ayushi Aruna Agarwal is currently pursuing a DPhil (Ph.D.) in law at the University of Oxford with funding from the JN Tata scholarship and the Oxford Law Faculty. She read for the Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford as a Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholar and was also offered the Cornelia Sorabjee scholarship (which she declined). Prior to that, she completed B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) at National Law School of India University, where she received the gold medal for being the ‘Best all-round graduating student’.

Ayushi has wide experience in legal research, writing, and teaching. She has published opinion pieces in The Hindu, The Wire, and The Indian Express; blog pieces in Oxford Human Rights Hub and NLSIU’s Socio-Legal Review Blog; and legal articles in SCOPUS-indexed and peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Discrimination and the Law. She was recently invited to write for Economic and Political Weekly, and has held a research residency at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights.
