The Daksha Fellowship is India’s first law, policy and business fellowship program for young and mid-career lawyers, public policy professionals and other graduates with a background in law.
Legal education and the practice of law are poised to undergo tectonic changes.
In short, a lawyer in the digital age requires a new set of knowledge, expertise and skills to address these challenges. In the webinar, Dr. Ananth Padmanabhan, Dean – Academic Affairs, explains the key features of India’s first fellowship for lawyers.
Daksha Fellowship aims to bridge the gap between the worlds of academia, research and policymaking on the one hand, and industry and practice on the other.
The program will drive pedagogic innovation by combining the academic rigour in traditional learning with the fluidity and dynamism offered by technology. Daksha fellows will learn from a cohort of founding faculty that consist of leading academics, policy researchers, law firm partners, corporate counsel, and eminent litigators.
Dr Ananth Padmanabhan is the Dean at Daksha Fellowship and a visiting fellow at the Centre for Policy Research. He holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in law from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Dr Padmanabhan is one of India’s top experts and leading public intellectual on technology policy, innovation and regulation.
Over the past few years, he has critically examined the policy implications of a wide range of technologies and solutions including digital identities, blockchain, civilian drones, gene editing, and electric mobility, with special focus on ease of innovating in India.
Previously, Ananth worked with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, New Delhi, starting their technology policy research initiatives in India. He has practiced law in the Madras High Court and taught at several institutions including the National Law University, Jodhpur, and the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
