In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (xvii) of sub-section (2) of section 114 of the Maharashtra Irrigation Act, 1976 (Maharashtra XXXVIII of 1976) the Government of Maharashtra hereby makes the following rules for fixation of extra charge on water rates, the same having been previously published as required by sub-section (1) of said section 114, namely

1. Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Maharashtra Irrigation (Fixation of extra charge on water rates) Rules, 1982.

(2) They shall come into force on and from the 15th day of November, 1982.

2. Extra charge on water rates.- If the water rates leviable or charged under the Maharashtra Irrigation Act, 1976 (Maharashtra XXXVIII of 1976) are not paid on or before the dates determined by the Appropriate Authority under sub-section (1) of section 88 of that Act, there shall be paid an extra charge at the rate of 10 per cent, of the amount due on account of such water rates.
