Supreme Court: Can't pass orders to search missing articles in museums

Supreme Court expounded that,"How can the general directions be passed to search for/to investigate all missing articles in all museums across the country? You (the Petitioner) are right-minded person; file a specific case".

Apex Court has expounded that it can't pass general orders for the search and probe into the missing articles/artefacts of the museums across India.

Apex Court Bench comprising CJI J.S. Khehar and Justice D. Y. Chandrachud made observations while disposing off the Habeas Corpus petition filed by a relative of the whistle-blower Sunil Kumar Upadhayay, a Preservation officer of the Kolkata's Indian Museum, who's been missing for more than 3 years now.

Court passed the order after going through report filed by the SIT dated 25th May 2015.

Petition had raised several other issues including security of the museums across India and stated that,"Indian Museum- out of the 29 galleries, 14 weren't covered under the CCTV and even installed cameras were operational only during the working hours only. Thus there wasn't any surveillance during night," stated the petition while referring to the CAG Report.
