March,24,2016:

The Division Bench has now directed the producers to submit CDs of the film, its trailer and introductory PR material for its perusal.

The Delhi High Court Wednesday reserved its verdict on a plea against the release of film ‘Santa Banta Pvt Ltd’ and will consider whether it could be said to ridicule the Sikh community after watching the film and the trailer.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee had filed a public interest litigation against the film, to be released on April 22, contending that it makes fun of the Sikh community. The plea claimed if the film was allowed to be released, the “reputation of Sikh community will be immensely affected, causing irreparable loss to the Sikh community all over the world.”

Defending the clearance granted to the film by the Censor Board, Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain told the court of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath that there was “nothing objectionable” in the film, and the board “would have considered all relevant aspects” before granting its certificate.

The bench has now directed the producers to submit CDs of the film, its trailer and introductory PR material for its perusal.

The order was passed on a plea filed by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee which has contended that the movie, to be released on April 22, makes fun of the community and could also lead to “disturbance”. IE
