Conference Theme

Comparative Constitutional Law: Developments and its Teaching Techniques in Commonwealth Nations

Constitution of any country is a living and dynamic document. Constitution binds together the people of a given country despite diversity in all spheres. In modern times, globalization has widened the scope of constitutional studies by requiring the lawyers and other stakeholders to understand legal principles far beyond the territorial boundaries.

Thus, Comparative Constitutional Law offers broad range of interdisciplinary interest to lawyers, economists, political scientists, sociologists, adjudicators and legislators in understanding how Constitutions are framed and how they are being interpreted. Study of Comparative Constitutional Law is the study of constitutional law through the lens of comparative law.

In the modern era, where lawyers have international clients, legal professionals must study beyond their domestic law and should be aware of constitutional trends in neighbouring and other countries in order to assess and evaluate transnational developments. It is essential to examine how countries are addressing and solving similar situations in emerging constitutional jurisprudence.

As a branch of law, Comparative Constitutional Law aims at providing awareness on (i) structural approach to Constitution making and Constitution interpretation (ii) individual freedoms, (iii) rule of law and separation of powers, (iv) role of judicial review, (v) the possibilities and limits of modern Constitutions (vi) pluralism etc.

The Main Conference is open to the following categories:

  1. a) Law Teachers b) Bar and Bench c) Administrators d) Educational consultants e) Educational policy makers; and f) Law students
