About the Journal

The GLC-SPIL International Law Journal (“Journal”) is a bi-annual double-blind peer reviewed journal of Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, a student-run organisation based in Government Law College, Mumbai (GLC).

About GLC Mumbai

Established in 1855, the Government Law College, Mumbai holds the distinction of being Asia’s oldest law school and one of the most venerated legal institutions in India. For nearly two centuries, GLC has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s legal, political, and constitutional landscape. Its legacy is not just etched in the annals of Indian jurisprudence but continues to influence the evolving nature of law and governance in the country and beyond.

About SPIL

SPIL Mumbai, strive towards taking legal studies to an empirical level and promoting law as an area of enquiry and study far beyond the realms of classrooms. As a student- based organisation, seek to encourage communication and cooperation among students and lawyers internationally.

SPIL Mumbai relentlessly strives to provide greater opportunities for comprehensive studies of international cultures and legal systems, to facilitate global interactions and to publicise educational and career opportunities in international law.

Theme

Submissions are invited under the theme of International Trade Law. This includes, inter alia, sub-themes such as WTO law, trade remedies, subsidies and countervailing measures, technical barriers to trade, SPS measures, digital trade, regional trade agreements, global value chains, trade and development, trade facilitation, investment–trade linkages, and emerging issues such as sustainability, climate-related trade rules, and AI-driven trade regulation.

Submission Categories

  • Long Articles: Word Limit – 6000 words or more, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography. In-depth analysis of issues in public and private international law, comparative international legal regimes, or theoretical frameworks.
  • Short Articles or Essays: Word Limit – 4000 to 6000 words, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography. Concise analytical pieces on emerging trends in international law, or under-explored themes in international law.
  • Case Comments and/or Legislative Notes: Word Limit – 2000 to 3000 words, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography. Critical evaluations of recent or landmark judgments by international courts and tribunals, and analytical perspectives on international legal developments in national policies or legislations, especially those affecting treaty implementation.
  • Treaty and Instrument Analyses: Word Limit – 2000 to 3000 words, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography.
    Contemporary examination of international treaties, conventions, and customary international law instruments, including drafting history and interpretative concerns.
  • Book Reviews: Word Limit – 2000 to 3000 words, exclusive of footnotes and bibliography. Analytical reviews of recent publications relevant to international law, including recent academic texts, commentaries, and practitioner handbooks.

Eligibility

The entries are open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, industry practitioners, academicians and research scholars.

Formatting Guidelines

The body of the manuscript must be in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing. The footnotes must be in Times New Roman, font size 10, with single line spacing. All margins should be set to 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides.

The manuscript should contain only footnotes (strictly no end notes) as a method of citation and must conform to the Harvard Bluebook 21st Edition.
