July 11,2017:

SC forced Centre to undertake before it that it would not implement these rules, which Madras HC put on hold on May 30,2017.

Orders staying new 'no slaughter' regulations will give some reprieve to the butchers' business across the country.

The Meat Suppliers had already planned to petition Supreme Court about huge setback to their businesses with new Central rules.

On May 23,2017 Centre had issued the new rules banning sales of the cattle for the slaughter.

A week later, Madurai bench of Madras HC stayed this 'slaughter ban' for four weeks and asked Union Environment Ministry and Tamil Nadu Government to respond to a petition filed by the Madurai-based Activist-Lawyer and Vegetarian S Selvagomathy.

On Tuesday, Centre,  while arguing against 'stay', said that since Madurai Bench of Madras High Court stayed new rules they were unlikely to be implemented immediately.

It added that Government is listening to the various organisations that are against these new rules and that it plans to bring changes in rules by the August end.

But Apex Court decided to go ahead and stay 'no slaughter' rules issued by Union Environment Ministry.
Centre's new 'no slaughter' rules of May 23 include, among other things, require written certification from both the seller and the buyer that Sale of Cattle is not for slaughter. Buyer a bonafide farmer who produces the dairy products has to certify that the cattle will not be sold within six months.
