Former Calcutta High Court Judge C.S. Karnan has petitioned to New President Ram Nath Kovind seeking remission of his six months prison sentence.
This has been e-mailed to Rashtrapati Bhavan by his legal team on Tuesday.
Justice (retd.) Karnan’s lawyers were not be able to meet new President and submit the petition in person on Tuesday due to Swearing-in Ceremony. They would try to get an appointment for Wednesday.
The Petition states that,“Inscrutable are ways of almighty. It could be His will that Justice (retd.) C.S. Karnan’s be first representation which Your Excellency as President of India on very first day of assumption of office. And that too, seeking exercise of your Excellency’s extraordinary jurisdiction under the Article 72,Constitution of India”.
Under Article 72, Constitution, provides President to either remit or suspend the sentence awarded to the Justice(retd.) Karnan till hearing of his appeal to “recall/review” Supreme Court’s order.
