The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday has taken suomoto cognizance on the basis of a letter sent by advocate Abhishek Atrey, a practicing advocate at Supreme Court of India, to the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, stating that minor girls in Chitrakoot have been allegedly forced to trade their body for survival.
Advocate Abhishek while citing a report published in the India Today Magazine and also broadcasted on India Today News Live TV, has stated hat in district Chitrakoot minor girls have been forced to enter immoral activities against meager wages.
He has also levelled serious allegations pertaining to violation of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986.
The two Judges bench of High Court Comprised of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh, has taken cognizance on the present matter and order to a notice of send the notice of the petition to the District Magistrate and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Chitrakoot by fax within two days.
“Having considered the material available on record, we deem it appropriate to direct the District Magistrate, Chitrakoot and the Chairman, District Legal Serivces Authority, Chitrakoot to inquire into the entire matter as referred in the report given by India Today Magazine. The District Magistrate as well as Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Chitrakoot are required to submit their separate reports to this Court on or before 28th July, 2020.”
The court has been treated the letter as a petition for writ in public interest.
