Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur on Saturday shared with Media that he is hopeful that the controversy which has arisen due to recent refusal of Justice J. Chelameswar to participate in the collegium meetings would be sorted out internally.

In the recent development, Justice Chelameswar, despite being Member of five-member Collegium headed by CJI and Justice A.R. Dave, Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice Dipak Misra as co-members, did not attend the SC Collegium meet which was scheduled last Thursday.

Justice Chelameswar in a letter to CJI Thakur stating that he won’t be attending the collegium meetings any more owing to reason that it was opaque and  non-transparent mode of appointing and also transferring Judges.

CJI Thakur further enunciated the issue of lack of adequate number of judges at the trial and appellate courts and because of which the fundamental right of speedy trial was not being delivered.

He in his address also urged the young lawyers to face challenges that are posed in today’s world for the downtrodden and also be true to the guardians of democratic and the constitutional values”.
