June,16,2017:

Blasts had left 257 dead and 713 seriously injured.

On Friday, Special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) (Prevention) Act court has convicted six, including Abu Salem and Mustafa Dossa for 12 blasts that shook Mumbai killing 257 and leaving 713 grievously injured.

Court will pronounce sentence after hearing the arguments from defence and prosecution. If convicted, the six accused except Siddiqui could face the death penalty.

Since Salem was extradited from Portugal which does not have death penalty with an assurance that he will not be given extreme penalty, it is to be seen what punishment the CBI seeks for Salem.

Hearing for the sentencing part of the judgment will begin on June 19 and Deepak Salvi Prosecutor stated that he would seek maximum possible sentence for convicts.

12 coordinated attacks between 1.30 pm and 3.40 pm on the 12th March, 1993, planned over 15 meetings across the UAE and India, also destroyed property worth Rs 27 crore.

Special CBI counsel Deepak Salvi submitted before the Court that "this was first ever terrorist attack in world where the RDX was used on such a large scale after Second World War."
