New Meta Logo Saved from Trademark Proceedings

Facebook, the social networking giant, recently announced a rebranding. It released a new company name as Meta. This new name was revealed during the Oculus Connect event of the company.  The corporation not only revealed a new name but also unveiled a new logo. The name change has faced loads of trolls in the last couple of days from both users and other companies. However, the new logo of Facebook has attracted a serious concern of copying.

‘M-sense Migräna’ a Berlin-based migraine app has recently poked fun at Meta. This app was developed by Newsenselab. M-sense is clearly feeling honored that Facebook got inspired for their new logo to a large extent. The German health firm provides digital therapy programs to every one of its subscribers suffering from migraine and headaches. It was founded in the month of February 2016. “We are very honored that Facebook felt inspired by the logo of our migraine app, maybe they will get inspired by our data privacy procedures as well,” said the company in a tweet.

When a question was raised on Facebook's privacy policies, one of the users stated that the company's policies are nothing less than a huge headache. M-sense also poked fun at Mark Zuckerberg while advising him to use their app to ease their migraine arising from rebranding.

It is very much fortunate for Facebook that the M-sense is not thinking of pursuing legal action against the company. In a reply to another user, the company said, “We didn’t say they stole it - we said we feel honored to have them inspired.” It is one of those cases where the company is not feeling aggrieved from another company’s logo’s similarity with their own logo but it has commonly observed that companies sue for such practices under the Trademarks Act, 1999 for committing Trademark infringement.
