Suit has been filed on on 1st Aug 2018, for differentially copying their company name as well as their logo which is too close to Starbuck’s famous 2-tailed mermaid & use it illegally for the promotion of their product.
Sardarbuksh has opened 5 coffee outlets in Delhi with an extensive menu of coffee, shakes & snacks. They've been accused of copying a similar name as well as a very similar logo to that of the U.S. global coffee chain Starbucks.
Starbucks penetrated the Indian market in collaboration with Tata Group in 2012. The company currently has 125 outlets pan India & 28,000 outlets in 70 countries.
The local company’s upcoming 30 outlets are advised to go for a new branding, while the 5 existing outlets will carry on the Sardarbuksh branding till the Court’s final verdict which is scheduled on September 2018.
However, Delhi High Court in reference to the case issued an order which directed the local coffee chain to change their brand’s name to Sardarji-Buks along with their logo & compensate for the intellectual property infringement.
