September, 30, 2017:

The numbers of child labourers and prostituted children is increasing, said an Activist.

Some of the recently enacted laws have legalised the child labour in many sectors in India, representative of an Indian organisation that works against the sex trafficking has told the members of UN General Assembly.

Ruchira Gupta who was representing Apne Aap Women Worldwide, which is an award-winning organisation that works against the sex trafficking in India, in her address to the high-level meeting of General Assembly stated that there are two laws “which are very very problematic” and will have a very dangerous impact on the poorest of the poor girls.

One was passed in September,2016, she added in her address.

She further added that,“Law has legalised child labour in my country in many sectors like the family-based enterprises and the audio-visual entertainment. It has also removed ILO-IPEC list of the hazardous industries that children should never be employed in”.

Ruchira Gupta said that,""Second law in works is trying to delink trafficking from the sexual exploitation.

Ms Gupta stated that,“Both laws together will make 80 per cent of the victims of the human trafficking for sexual and labour exploitation invisible”.

Thus she stated that,"It will result in creating data that will show a decrease in the human trafficking in India, but it will increase numbers of the child labourers and prostituted children".

Ruchira Gupta was one of few representatives from NGO Sector who were allowed to speak at High Level meeting of UN General Assembly on the Human Trafficking.
